Social Media in Research (or research on social media)

The capability to communicate with people from distant locations is given to us unsparingly nowadays thanks to internet. When we use it with the right way it can be a really powerful implement.

One basic reason for using net’s social media is the conduction of a research. There are many sites that someone can bring forward their research, no matter with what it has to do. For example the researchers can use facebook, myspace, hi5 or skyrock to inform the other people or to be informed, about the topic of their reseasch. If they want to associate with a more specific informed mass the right sites for them are LinkedIn, XING or WetFeet, where someone can establish their professional profile or a group profile and discuss with experts through forums or personally. The results are that the users have the opportunity to get trusted introductions and help to find the knowledge they are looking for. The registration in all of the above sites is free and the possibility of a payment offers some extra scopes.

If the research is scientific the most proper sites are: scirus, where they can find a broad library of scientific articles, a number of links, as also upload their own work. Science Insider, where one can find online material related to science research papers, react to articles, search for science careers, multimedia, collections, submit their research and many other prospects. MySciNet, that diverse background’s scientists and students connect personally and professionally, sharing their interests and scientific goals. There is as well the opportunity to access a variety of resources that advance one’s career.

MySciNet, ScienceCareerBlog and CTSciNet, belong in the broad scientific net environment called Science AAAS, and are only a taste among many other sites and blogs that represent a variety of researchers.

Additionally, the researchers can log in famous newspaper’s sites like the Guardian’s Science Blogs, NewScientist’s, ScientDaily’s, Press Association’s, Telegraph’s, etc. , that cover a wide range of articles and researches like space, technology, environment, health, physics, mathematics, etc. Just as with other sites, users are able to see photo galleries, watch and upload videos, give voice to their opinion, and all these things that social media offers and are so communicative and brain widening.

One basic point in social media use is researchers to split, from the beginning of their work, “professional” from “personal” accounts. They should know that style of writing is good to be much formal when using “professional” data’s identity. The professional image is going to affect their future occupational aspects maybe more that the researchers (and every user) can imagine.  It is important for the researchers to have their own blog that helps them to promote their work, as well to keep it running, so as the interest of the other researchers, employers, “fans” or simple readers to remain the same and their work and career to go upward. People being researchers should also considerate to have a responsible behaviour, and that means that they should draw out the original character of their work.

So, I believe that in case that I am a researcher my behaviour and policy will tend to be accordant to previous words.
