The setting up of microphones and musician’ s instruments and peripherals begun at 9.00 in the morning and we started recording at around 10.00, on Friday, 3rd, December. After six hours we had eight fully recorded songs on a Pro Tools session. Each of the three students of our group would select one song to mix it on a 5.1 and stereo version.
The band we recorded is called Fortunate Sons and they are four musicians: drummer, baser, guitarist and singer; they play old time classic and well known reggae and rock songs. They were very well organised and communicative during the recording procedure. All musicians of the group were experienced in the recording procedure and they knew their songs very well. 3D Sound Sphere is an audio reproduction system with multiple speakers arranged spherically, where sound transmission is centripetal and listening point is the center of a ball. As a result, listener lies on a sound environment of perfect symmetry.
Once it had been accomplished, operated and listened by its constructors, they did become very impressed. So, the only thing that had left to do was to find out what other people would think about it. 3DSS construction was presented at the 1rst Hellenic Patent Exhibition in Athens, on November 24, 2010, and it approves that this application has a lot of audio interest. By the end of exhibition, the inventors were determined that 3D Sound Sphere can offer too many perspectives in music and sound reproduction area. Thereby, the achievement of their goal added up to more purposes. Continue Reading »

3D Sound Sphere was released at the first Hellenic Patent Exhibition in Athens on November 24rth, 2010. Pavlos Tripodakis and Giorgios Konstantinidis are the pioneers of this construction. More than 3.500 people witnessed this 3DSS experience during those three days of exposure of Sphere to the public, from 24/11 to 28/11.
The application of 3D Sound Sphere represents the idea of global centripetal audio transmission. It is inspired by sphere’s geometric shape. The creation of this application resolved one significant question: As humans are able to listen to three dimensions, how would they listen if they were in the center of a sound ball?
An optional questionnaire with 3 questions was given to the audience after getting out of Sound Sphere, for statistical purposes. Its questions and results are presented below: Continue Reading »
